"The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul.” – Audrey Hepburn
Recently I watched my granddaughter redefine herself and, ultimately, her concept of beauty. The youth can teach us.
After a treacherous year, I observed her metamorphous. She changed her environment to one more focused on bettering herself and the world around her. In a short amount of time, she glowed from the inside, and it was impossible not to be drawn to her.
As we age, we develop this notion that we need to be embarrassed or ashamed of the changes… or, worse, that our beauty has faded. Girl, that is simply not true. Your beauty is and has always been beautiful!
We can set our intention on building our environment to exude the same glow as my granddaughter – one that only comes with a soul at peace with itself.
Like Audrey Hepburn said, true beauty comes from the soul.

1. Nothing is more beautiful than confidence
My granddaughter did not change much physically from one year to the next, yet, she was vibrant. Her energy was infectious, and her beauty was on display. The only thing that changed was her confidence.
When we feel confident, it reflects in everything, from how we hold ourselves to our energy. It draws in those around us like a firefly to the light; individuals focused on positive self-growth start finding their way into our lives. Well, hello, Law of Attraction. I see you there.

2. Focus on yourself and not others
As we age, we can become hyper-focused on our imperfections and equally as laser-eyed on others’ lives. Unfortunately, social media doesn't help with this. Instead of scrolling, focus on building your surroundings to reflect the world as you want to see it.
“When we focus on the good, the good gets better."
We all have things we want to improve upon. I, for one, cannot make grilled cheese without burning it… yet my son swears he loves my grilled cheese best of all.

Hang photos of those people up on your walls. Put your certifications on the wall to remind yourself of all you have accomplished. Subscribe to magazines showcasing your interests.
There’s no need to compare yourself to others. You have always been enough and are perfect just the way you are.

3. Accept that your body is changing
Our bodies change from the moment we are born. There is nothing wrong with aging – it is the most natural thing we can do.

There is nothing wrong with aging – it is the most natural thing we can do. Could you imagine how boring life would be if we always stayed the same? We’d be grown-up toddlers… yikes.
There’s no need to fight your body’s changes - embrace them! If it feels like too much change at once, figure out what makes life feel easier. It may be simplifying a makeup routine or going for a daily walk with friends.
Whatever your secret sauce is to rejuvenate your limbs and mind, prioritize it, and remember accepting yourself and your body’s changes allows an open door for positive change to sashay into your life… maybe with a pumpkin spice latte to share.

4. Practice self-care
One of the most important mindsets you can adopt is that you are worth the time for self-care.
Self-care doesn't have to be lavish trips to a resort or thousands spent on a spa day.
Nor does it have to be perfectly manicured nails and fancy dinners. Of course, it could be, but true self-care is unique to you.
But if you are taking a lavish trip and have an extra ticket, call us!

5. Explore new hobbies
Have you ever felt like you’re living Groundhog’s Day? Time for a new hobby!
Evaluate what speaks to you – could it be a cooking, adorable felt creations from craft shows, bath bombs from the health store, or homegrown herb gardens? What do you find yourself pausing and observing as you walk around town?
Embrace these interests and turn them into your hobbies! Get out and play, lady!
It doesn't matter if you are good at it. Like a toddler finger painting, the end result is not as important as the process, so dive right in! Find your fun!

6. Practicing happiness in general, every day!
Audrey Hepburn said, "happy girls are the prettiest." Wouldn’t you know, she hit the nail on the head!
Just as nothing changed with my granddaughter’s outward appearance, when she found contentment, she radiated. We have to practice joy.
Drama is addictive; it's why so many reality-tv shows exist. Its entertainment comes at the expense of our peace. Ditch the drama and focus on happiness. What we water grows.
