How to keep your skin silky smooth during dry skin season.
Winter is upon us. And while we haven’t technically crossed the winter solstice yet, Old Man Winter is already having his merry little way with your skin!
As we move from season to season, it’s important to maintain proper skincare.
During the cold months it’s common to have itchy... dry… cracked… inflamed… and ashy skin on exposed areas.
It’s because the combination of cold air, harsh winds, reflections off the snow, and heated homes can leave your skin in less than ideal condition.
To keep Old Man Winter in his place, practice good skin care routines that keep your skin healthy while you partake in the splendor of a Winter Wonderland!
Here are 9 tips for you to use now:
1. Apply sunscreen.
Before you hit the slopes or run out to build the season’s first snowman with the grandkids, protect your skin with SPF.
Even though it’s winter, your skin is vulnerable to UV rays from the sun reflecting off the snow and ice.
Overexposure to the elements can cause burning, dryness, cracking or other unpleasant skin conditions. To keep your skin safe use sunscreen or try Vibriance Sheer Zinc Sunscreen.
This is an SPF 50 zinc-based sunscreen that blends perfectly with every complexion. As an added benefit it acts as a foundation and provides a little coverage.
It also has moisturization properties, which is very helpful during the winter months. Since our products are designed for mature skin every product enhances your skin's precious moisture.
2. Stay hydrated.
Consuming fluids is a great way to hydrate from the inside out. How much you need depends on your activity level, climate, elevation, and overall health.
However, a good rule of thumb is to consume 11.5 cups of liquid per day. If you’re not a fan of plain water, might we recommend some high-water foods like fruits and veggies….
Or a nice seasonal tea? Nothing is better on a cold afternoon than warming your hands and heart around a nice mug of ginger spice tea!
3. Take short, warm baths or showers
Your skin has a natural oil barrier to protect it against the elements. Long, hot showers… while they feel great on a cold winter’s morn… strip your skin of this much-needed nutrient.
Experts recommend you limit your bathing to 5-10 minutes daily. And avoid using hot water when washing your hands… warm water and a good soap kills the germs! After bathing use a good moisturizer, such as Vibriance Age Defying Body Serum.
This skincare serum contains high-end ingredients and is designed for the whole body from the neck down.
4. Choose a good facial cleanser.
Especially during the dry months, you want to avoid soap-based products and use a cleanser that is made for your face.
This is a daily cleanser made from the highest quality ingredients that will gently remove dirt, makeup, and pollutants without drying out your skin.
It won't over-dry your skin like traditional facial soaps on the market.
Be sure to follow up with Vibriance Super C Serum. Our #1 selling product is a winter "must-have". It rejuvenates the skin making it brighter, tighter, and more firm!
4. Use a humidifier.
When it’s cold outside, and you’re chilled to the bone, nothing feels better than warming in front of a crackling fire in the fireplace.
Over time the use of a heater, fireplace or furnace will dry the air in your home.
To combat this, use a humidifier to add much needed moisture to your space. Your skin absorbs the water in the air.
You don’t need to have a whole-house unit. Use a portable humidifier and take it around the house to keep the humidity where you are!
6. Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize!
In this busy season where washing your hands is a multi-day ritual, you may struggle to stay ahead of the dryness and cracking… especially in the knuckle area.
A good technique that helps skin to recover faster is to use a treatment consisting of a good moisturizer and mittens or socks.
Before you turn-in for the night, wash your hands with warm water… apply a good moisturizer like Vibriance Moisturizing Cream and cover your hands with mittens or socks to hold the moisture in all night long.
This cream is made with nutrient-rich organic superfoods that absorb into your skin… P.S. This works great for rough dry feet too!
7. Wear protective and non-irritating clothes.
While out and about, be sure to cover your face and hands to keep them protected from the elements… dress in layers to allow your skin to breathe… and avoid material that can cause irritations when rubbed against your skin.
If you want to wear a sweater or gloves made from a textured material, such as wool, rayon, or polyester… consider wearing a silky underlay to protect your skin from abrasions.
8. Get your beauty sleep.
While you sleep, your body gets busy!
The body replenishes collagen… skin cells regenerate… toxins are expelled… and moisture levels are balanced.
These are essential to keep your skin healthy, vibrant, fresh, and supple.
